Starting Wednesday, January 11, the sounds of acoustic songs will fill the Fireside Lounge at ZED451. Each week, on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m., the cozy, ski lodge-like setting will welcome a variety of live, local acts to the River North restaurant’s bar area. The performances (schedule below) are free to attend.

ZED451’s Fireside Lounge offers a large variety of creative, liquid market cocktails, craft brews and hand-selected wines, in addition to a full a la carte “Cravings” menu (pad Thai tacos, char-grilled sirloin salad, calamari fries, house-cured duck pastrami Reuben sliders, maple Cajun BLT, spiced chicken samosas, Aegean flatbread and more) from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Wednesdays.

New Chef, New Dinner Menu at Elate

American Market Cuisine by Executive Chef Mike Noll

Elate restaurant in River North has recently appointed Mike Noll as the Executive Chef. Noll will offer contemporary American, rustic cuisine that incorporates locally-sourced ingredients on each of his breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and late night menus. All of Elate’s menus are ever-changing due to seasonal readiness and market availability.

Elate and Chef Noll are pleased to release the new dinner menu. The offerings include selections of flatbreads, charcuterie, raw, small plates and entrees, ranging from $10-$27. The complete menu is below.

Noll, now Executive Chef, initially joined Elate as the Chef de Cuisine (under consulting Executive Chef Chris Curren). His previous positions include such celebrated restaurants as Moto, Butter, Powerhouse, Schwa and Jam. He credits Chef Michael Carlson’s and Chef Jeff Mauro’s passion and love for their craft as a major influence on his career. Mike Noll originally hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his interest in cooking began under the tutelage of Michael Barbado at Peppercorns and Toni Pais at Baum Vivant.

Nacional 27 Offers Special Prix Fixe Menu for the New Year

Once all of the holiday hoopla dies down, it’s time to treat yourself to a festive meal to commence the new year. To get 2011 off to a sumptuous start, Nacional 27 is offering a special three-course prix fixe menu priced at $20.11 per person.

Featuring some of the River North Latin hot spot’s signature dishes, such as smoked chicken empanadas, grilled marinated skirt steak and Gunthorp Farms suckling pig, Nacional 27’s 2011 prix fixe menu is an affordable way to celebrate new beginnings.

The “Feliz Año Nuevo” menu will be served Monday through Thursday during regular restaurant hours (Monday through Wednesday 5-9:30 p.m.; Thursday 5-11 p.m.) from January 3 to February 24, 2011.

Zocalo Launches Lunch Promotion

Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar in River North has introduced an enticing lunch offer. Bucking the phrase “there’s no such thing as a free lunch,” the restaurant encourages you to bring a buddy any Tuesday for a complimentary multi-course lunch.

With the purchase of one lunch buffet, your friend will receive his/her lunch for free. Zocalo’s Mexican all-you-care-to-enjoy lunch includes such items as crispy taquitos, empanadas, tamales, enchiladas, slowly braised and grilled meats with house-made tortillas, Mexican rice, refried black beans, soup, salad and salsa bar plus dessert, for $10.95.

Reservations are welcome, not required. The ala carte lunch menu is also available.

RB Grille Introduces Weekly Prix Fixe Option

RB Grille, the contemporary American restaurant located in the heart of River North, will introduce a weekly prix fixe dinner option beginning Monday, September 6. Every Monday through Friday between 4:00pm and 6:00pm, Executive Chef Christopher McCoy will offer a three course menu for $30. Selections include an appetizer, main course and dessert (listed below).RB Grille offers a variety of libations to complement any meal, such as hand-shaken signature martinis, over 150 wine selections by the glass or bottle (a select list of bottles are half-price on Wednesdays) and award-winning beers from the adjacent Rock Bottom Brewery.

Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar Hosts Partida Tequila Tasting Event

Mexico’s national spirit will get the attention it deserves during Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar’s monthly tequila distillery events. Taking place on the second Thursday of every month, these spirited soirees will highlight different tequilas through informal tastings, specialty cocktails and Zocalo’s flavorful Mexican fare.

Partida Tequila will be in the spotlight on Thursday, July 8 from 6:30-9 pm. Guests will get to taste tequilas, as well as summer cocktails created by resident tequila ambassador Victor Baheza.  Passed appetizers from Zocalo’s menu will keep tequila tasters in the game, while live Latin music will set an upbeat vibe. The cost to attend Zocalo’s Partida Tequila tasting is $20 per person, which includes two specialty cocktails, the tequila tasting, passed appetizers and a raffle ticket for a chance to win Zocalo gift cards, Partida Tequila and more.

Zocalo’s weekly “Dine at Nine” promotion will also be in effect, offering half off all food items after 9 p.m. (must make a reservation and mention offer), as well as pitchers of Zocalo Margaritas frozen or on the rocks for $20 and pitchers of Tropical Margaritas (Blood Orange, Prickly Pear, Passion-Mango, Blueberry) for $25.
