Carnival 2012 at Nacional 27

Rio-style Celebration with Brazilian Beats and Cachaca Drinks

Can’t make it to Rio de Janeiro this year?  Nacional 27 in River North will offer the next best thing at their “Carnival 2012” cocktail party on Fat Tuesday, February 21. The Nuevo Latino restaurant and lounge, inspired by the flavors and ingredients from the 27 countries comprising Central and South America, will feature live Brazilian music by the Bossa Tres Trio from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and custom cocktails made with Brazilian-based ingredients.

In-house mixologist and general manager Liz Samples will offer three different types of Caipirinhas, a classic Brazilian drink made with cachaca (a Brazilian liquor made from distilled and fermented sugarcane juice).  Guests may select the Classic Caipirinha, the Smooth & Spicy Caipirinha made with coconut, mango, ginger and lime or the Lux Caipirinha, made with yuzu sour juice ($8 each).  The restaurant will also feature a Veev Acai Berry-blended Mojito for $10.  Acai is a “superfood” berry found in the Brazilian Amazon.

Executive Chef Francisco Vilchez’s full tapas and dinner menus will be available.

Nacional 27 will hold the fourth annual StyleChicago “South Beach Style” girls night out event on Thursday, March 1 from 6-9 p.m. This fun, very girly party with a Latin twist includes: creative cocktails; Hey Mambo wine; Peroni beer; a variety of passed tapas, ceviche and small plates; Salsa dancing instruction; Zumba lessons; fabulous fashions; and spa and beauty services. All ticket holders will have a chance to win designer prizes and giveaways.

Academy Awards Viewing Party

Now that the nominations have been announced, the anticipation begins. Find out who will be awarded with an Oscar during ZED451’s Academy Awards viewing party on Sunday, February 26. Guests are invited to walk the red carpet into Zed451’s urban-chic lounge, where both the celebrity red carpet arrivals and awards ceremony will be shown on the 10-foot projection screen. A ballot contest will be held to predict the evening’s winners, and the party guest with the most correct guesses will win a $150 gift certificate to the restaurant.

Starting Wednesday, January 11, the sounds of acoustic songs will fill the Fireside Lounge at ZED451. Each week, on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m., the cozy, ski lodge-like setting will welcome a variety of live, local acts to the River North restaurant’s bar area. The performances (schedule below) are free to attend.

ZED451’s Fireside Lounge offers a large variety of creative, liquid market cocktails, craft brews and hand-selected wines, in addition to a full a la carte “Cravings” menu (pad Thai tacos, char-grilled sirloin salad, calamari fries, house-cured duck pastrami Reuben sliders, maple Cajun BLT, spiced chicken samosas, Aegean flatbread and more) from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Wednesdays.

Classic Cocktail Class with Ketel One Vodka and Nolet Gin

Learn Libations Through an Interactive Spirits Station at Franklin Tap

Franklin Tap will host a Ketel One Vodka and Nolet Gin classic cocktail class and distillery sampling on Wednesday, January 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The educational (and fun) event will be led by Ketel One ambassador Daniel Kaman and Nolet ambassador Mike Mallory. Guests will sample spirits, learn how to shake and stir classic gin and vodka cocktails, and have the opportunity to try the interactive “mix your own martini” station.

Resident mixologist, Lisa Selman, has created two specialty, modern classic cocktails for the event. The “Spiced Pear” (Ketel One, lemon juice, pear nectar, clove simple syrup and liquor 43) and “Winter Fizz” (Nolet gin, cranberries, cinnamon simple syrup, sage, lime juice and soda) will be offered for $7, as will all Ketel One and Nolet gin cocktails and martinis that day.

Simply arrive at 5 p.m. or call Franklin Tap to reserve a table for the distillery sampling and cocktail class.

New Year’s Resolutions at Nacional 27

“Look Better Now” Menu and “Feel Better Now” Cocktails

Keep your resolutions intact, your waistline slimmer and your wallet fuller this January at Nacional 27. The “Look Better Now” menu, comprised of three courses of refreshing, flavorful, Latin-inspired dishes, will be offered  for only $20 per guest. The “Look Better Now” prix fixe is the perfect way to purge the gluttony of the holiday season.  The coordinating “Feel Better Now” cocktail menu is made with fresh, bright fruits and spirits for $8 each.

Each of the new year’s special offerings will be available Monday-Friday throughout the month of January 2012. Monday through Thursday, the dining hours are 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. and on Friday, dinner is available from 5:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. For table reservations, please call 312-664-2727.

New Bar Bite Menu at III Forks

Smaller Plates and Sandwiches in the Lounge Area

III Forks Prime Steakhouse unveils a new “bar bite” menu today in the lounge area. Chef Tommy Nevill has taken some of the most popular dishes from the rooftop and dinner menus to create smaller plate and sandwich selections for guests in III Forks lavish, lounge area. Nevill has included sharable dishes, such as blue cheese taro chips, artisanal cheese plates and Kobe sliders, as well as wedge salad wraps, ahi tuna, prime burger and steak tartar. All of the bar bites may be paired with one of the many hand-selected wines offered at III Forks, or the list of creative, seasonal cocktails.

III Forks is open Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 5 p.m. to Midnight.
