Rio-style Celebration with Brazilian Beats and Cachaca Drinks

Can’t make it to Rio de Janeiro this year?  Nacional 27 in River North will offer the next best thing at their “Carnival 2012” cocktail party on Fat Tuesday, February 21. The Nuevo Latino restaurant and lounge, inspired by the flavors and ingredients from the 27 countries comprising Central and South America, will feature live Brazilian music by the Bossa Tres Trio from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and custom cocktails made with Brazilian-based ingredients.

In-house mixologist and general manager Liz Samples will offer three different types of Caipirinhas, a classic Brazilian drink made with cachaca (a Brazilian liquor made from distilled and fermented sugarcane juice).  Guests may select the Classic Caipirinha, the Smooth & Spicy Caipirinha made with coconut, mango, ginger and lime or the Lux Caipirinha, made with yuzu sour juice ($8 each).  The restaurant will also feature a Veev Acai Berry-blended Mojito for $10.  Acai is a “superfood” berry found in the Brazilian Amazon.

Executive Chef Francisco Vilchez’s full tapas and dinner menus will be available.

Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club Presents a Diva-licious Fat Tuesday

“Mardi Gras Masquerade” Bash Features Drink Discounts and “RuPaul’s Drag Race”

Kit Kat Lounge & Supper Club will put its unique spin on the usual Fat Tuesday festivities with an over-the-top “Mardi Gras Masquerade” soiree on Tuesday, February 16. Guests will get to enjoy a variety of spirited drink specials, including half-price Cruzan Rum mojitos, and all specialty martinis will be half-price as well. Cruzan will also bestow a bevy of masks, favors and beads galore upon the evening’s revelers.

Kit Kat’s weekly “RuPaul’s Drag Race Rewind” viewing party will also be part of the party, airing at 8 p.m. on the club’s seven new state-of-the-art projection screens and sound system. Kit Kat’s very own Diva, Jade, also a contestant on the first season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” will be making a very special appearance.

Don’t let Mardi Gras, the holiday of debauchery celebrated this year on Tuesday, February 16, pass you by without indulging in some Cajun-inspired gluttony. At Dunlays on Clark, the friendly gathering spot for food and cocktails in Lincoln Park, Fat Tuesday will be commemorated with dishes, drinks and beers, all hailing from the great city of New Orleans.

Offered during regular restaurant hours (11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.), Dunlays’ Fat Tuesday food specials include such authentic Cajun and Creole favorites as crispy catfish bites, shrimp po’boys and beignets by Chef Grant Slauterbeck. Featured drinks, such as beer from Louisiana-based brewery Abita and Hurricanes, will keep patrons feeling the Mardi Gras vibe until the bar closes at 2 a.m. The complete list of Fat Tuesday food and drink specials is outlined below.

Smoke Daddy Brings the Best of New Orleans to Wicker Park

Fat Tuesday Festivities Feature Food, Music and Beer from the Big Easy

Fat Tuesday will be celebrated with a decidedly N’Awlins accent at Wicker Park’s Smoke Daddy. From 11:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, Cajun food specials such as gumbo and boiled crawfish ($8-$10) will be available along with the barbecue restaurant’s regular menu. Smoke Daddy’s weekly Tuesday special of $6 pulled meat nachos will also spice up the Fat Tuesday festivities.

Also on tap is Smoke Daddy’s weekly beer tasting series from 7-10 p.m., which in honor of Fat Tuesday, will feature Abita Brewing Company, a beloved Louisiana brewery. The tasting will offer specials on pints of featured beers ($6) and beer flights ($10). The tasting is free to attend.

Carpetbaggers Local 606, a popular Chicago-based Cajun zydeco band, will set a lively Mardi Gras vibe at Smoke Daddy starting at 9 p.m.

Timothy O’Toole’s Ragin’ Cajun Mardi Gras Parties

Streeterville and Gurnee Pubs Feature Food and Drink Specials for Fat Tuesday

Timothy O’Toole’s will celebrate Fat Tuesday with a decidedly New Orleans-style accent. Both the Streeterville and Gurnee locations will host a complimentary Cajun-inspired appetizer buffet, Cajun food specials, discounts on Hurricanes and beers and, of course, beads galore. 

The Gurnee venue will offer the happy hour appetizer buffet from 5:30-6:30 p.m., while the Streeterville pub will serve its spread from 6-7 p.m. Throughout the day and well into the night, both O’Tooles will also offer food specials by Chef Sean O’Brien straight from N’Awlins, including chicken-and-andouille etouffee, sausage gumbo, red beans & rice, fried okra and jalapeno cornbread.

Timothy O’Toole’s in Streeterville has dubbed its Mardi Gras soiree the Fat Tuesday “Big Cans” party, thanks to specials offered on – you guessed it – big cans of beer (PBR, Miller High Life and Old Style, $3; Heineken Keg Cans, Red Stripe and Fosters, $5). And, both locations will sling $6 Hurricanes to put you in a Big Easy mood.

Mardi Gras Goes Down Easy at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery

Discounted Appetizers, Hurricanes and Big Easy Ale for Fat Tuesday

Mardi Gras is a time for conspicuous consumption, most notably of cocktails and good food. Head to Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in River North on Tuesday, February 16 (a.k.a. “Fat Tuesday”) for an abundance of both.  

Rock Bottom will be commemorating the freewheeling festivities with several tempting food and drink specials. Guests can enjoy $4 Hurricanes, the official drink of Mardi Gras, along with $3 drafts of the brewery’s own Big Easy Ale. Also on offer are $5 appetizers served between 3-6 p.m.

Rock Bottom’s Mardi Gras celebration will take place throughout the day and well into the night, as the restaurant is open from 11-2 a.m. daily.
