LOKaL Appoints New Chef, Monica Riley

New Summer Menu and Late-Night Menu, Now Served

Chef Monica Riley will serve as the new Executive Chef at LOKaL, Wicker Park’s modern spot for contemporary cuisine with European influences. Riley moves the direction of the redesigned menu toward more casual summer fare and seasonal market specials. Chef Monica Riley is a Chicago native and 25-year restaurant veteran. She was at the helm of the openings at Hopleaf and Marigold, and also spent three years in the kitchen at Zinfandel as Chef de Cuisine. Riley’s passion is cooking ethnic foods, which inspired her to travel and work at restaurants in both Tokyo and Lebanon.

LOKaL’s new summer menu is now available for dinner service, served Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Highlights include the Gunthrop Farms brined, roasted and grilled chicken wings; spinach salad with fried egg and warm bacon vinaigrette; house-made, family recipe pierogis; Zapiekanka, an open-faced sandwich that is typically found as street fare in Poland, and ever-changing “market specials,” entrees that incorporate seasonal ingredients and local fare. Daily desserts will also be offered, such as Nutella chocolate cake and fruit-filled pierogis.

An abbreviated version of the dinner menu will be offered late-night, available Thursday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Menu items marked with an asterisk denote the late-night dishes.
