Farm-to-Bar Session Explores Herbs and Heirlooms

Adam Seger and Nacional 27 continue their popular monthly cocktail class series in August by exploring herbs and heirloom tomatoes. These hands-on courses, which showcase seasonal drinks demonstrated by the Latin restaurant’s award-winning bar chef, take place the second Thursday of every month.
The next class, which is set for 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, will highlight two of Seger’s custom cocktails: Heirloom Tomato Mojitonico and an Heirloom Tomato Bloody Margarita. The creative cocktails will be demonstrated for guests to watch, learn and taste.
A welcome cocktail and passed tapas will also be part of the gathering, and pupils will receive recipe cards to make these delicious concoctions at home. The fee for Nacional 27’s monthly cocktail classes is $27 per person. To purchase tickets, visit www.n27chicago.com or call 312.664.2727.

Adam Seger, one of the leading bar chefs in the country and award-winning restaurant/lounge Nacional 27 have teamed with a local farm, Harvest Moon Farms, to present 2010’s “Farm to Bar” project. The 20 acre certified organic farm in southwest Wisconsin is led by Chicago foodies Bob and Jennifer Borcardt. They have channeled their passion for farm fresh food and sustainable agriculture through heirloom vegetables and 49 varieties of produce.This partnership and program brings farm artisan produce and herbs to Adam Seger’s world of mixology. Nacional 27 has a custom plot on the farm and utilizes produce and herbs for their creative, seasonal cocktails.
The restaurant and lounge also has an on-site herb garden created by Amy Cox, founder of Cutting Edge/subURBAN Homestead, a consulting company that works with both restaurants and non-professionals in creating sustainable practices.
