Monday, July 12
$35 per person (includes tasting of eight wines)
France and Italy may try to hog the spotlight, but Germany and Austria can boast wine-growing regions with the best of ‘em. In fact, these prolific countries account for more than 100 red and white varietals, from Riesling and Gruner Veltliner to Spatburgunder and Blaufrankisch. While the names might be a mouthful, the wines are accessible and easy to pair, which you’ll discover at the next monthly wine tasting at D.O.C. Wine Bar in Lincoln Park.
Led by sommelier Greg Sorrell, D.O.C. Wine Bar’s monthly wine tastings, which take place the third Monday of every month, traverse many of the world’s top wine-growing regions, giving seasoned oenophiles and budding connoisseurs alike a chance to survey varietals from across the globe. On Monday, July 12 from 7-9 p.m., D.O.C. Wine Bar will showcase a selection of wines from Germany and Austria, highlighting such popular varietals as Riesling and Pinot Gris and branching out into more under-the-radar German and Austrian grapes like Zweigelt and Spatburgunder.
The eight wines to be featured during D.O.C.’s German and Austrian tasting include Markus Molitor Riesling, Kracher “Illimitz” Pinot Gris, Baron Heyl Rielsing, Julius Wasem & Sohne Spatburgunder and Umathum Zweigelt.
The cost of D.O.C. Wine Bar’s monthly wine tastings is $35 per person, which includes samples of eight wines and lively, grape-centric discussions. Please call D.O.C. Wine Bar at 773.883.5101 for more information and reservations.
