Don’t Miss a Minute of the Action at These Top Restaurants and Bars

Whether you refer to it as soccer or football, the global phenomenon that is the World Cup 2010 is about to invade the Windy City. Get caught up in the action as top Chicago restaurants and bars  broadcast the matches taking place in South Africa. Several venues will be opening their doors early to coincide with kick-off times and offering food and drink specials inspired by the 32 teams competing from all across the globe.

The World Cup 2010 kicks off on Friday, June 11 and continues through Sunday, July 11.

Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar
Celebrate the kick-off of the World Cup 2010 at Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar on Friday, June 11. Mexico and South Africa are set to compete in the first tournament, so where better to watch all of the action than at this favorite River North Mexican restaurant?   

Zocalo will be opening its doors at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 11 for a World Cup kick-off viewing party. Be sure to come hungry – Zocalo will debut its new lunch menu during the soccer extravaganza, as well as offer specials on Cuervo Tradicional Tequila and Modelo Especial Beer. There is no cost to attend.

Nacional 27
The spacious bar area at this cosmopolitan Latin hot spot will now come equipped with two 55-inch flatscreen TVs, which will be tuned to replays of World Cup matches with sound from 6-9 p.m. each evening. Nacional 27 will serve up food and drink specials each day based on the countries that are competing, including Corona (Mexico) and Xingu (Brazil) beers and caipirinha cocktails (Brazil once again). 

Timothy O’Toole’s
The sports-centric Streeterville pub will present the World Cup matches throughout the monthlong competition by opening at 9 a.m. to re-broadcast each day’s 6:30 a.m. match. At 6 p.m. each evening, O’Toole’s will re-air the day’s three matches on the pub’s 47 TV screens. A variety of global burger specials will be offered, giving the American staple a decidedly cosmopolitan flair.
