Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar, a lively Mexican restaurant in River North, prides itself on offering traditional Mexican cuisine updated with contemporary flavors and flair. Zocalo recently introduced a three-course prix-fixe menu highlighting the simple pleasures of street-style fare inspired by the vibrant marketplaces and vendors of Mexico City. 

Zocalo’s Mexico City “Street Fare” menu, which features such beloved rustic dishes as elotes (charred corn on the cob with mayonnaise, cotija cheese and chile piquin) and torta Capitalina (a traditional Mexican sandwich with a chipotle-black bean spread, breaded chicken, homemade chorizo, grilled ham and panela cheese), offers dining guests a selection of choices for a starter course, entree and dessert for $20 per person (plus tax and gratuity). Salsa y Guacamole
“Molcajete” salsa and guacamole with freshly diced avocado mixed with tomatoes, red onion, cilantro and Serrano chiles served with homemade totopos

Elotes
Charred corn on the cob with mayonnaise, cotija cheese and chile piquin

Molletes con Chorizo
Grilled bolillo bread with a black bean spread, homemade chorizo and melted Chihuahua cheese garnished with tomatillo salsa and pico de gallo

Flautas Capitalinas
Taquitos filled with chicken tinga and served over a tomatillo salsa, garnished with guacamole, crema, fresco cheese and red cabbage

Tacos, Tortas y Mas

Tacos al Pastor
Grilled marinated pork tenderloin garnished with a creamy tomatillo salsa and pineapple pico de gallo

Quesadilla de Carnitas
Crispy duck carnitas, roasted corn, epazote and melted Chihuahua cheese folded between two crispy flour tortillas, garnished with guacamole, crema, pico de gallo and cascabel-morita salsa

Torta Capitalina
Traditional Mexican sandwich with a chipotle-black bean spread, breaded chicken, homemade chorizo, grilled ham and panela cheese, served with seasoned home fries

Burrito Ahogado
Grilled marinated flank steak burrito with black bean spread, lettuce, pico de gallo and fresco cheese, drowned with a “ranchero” style salsa

Huaraches
Two crispy masa “flatbreads” with black bean spread, creamy poblano strips, panela cheese and “Molcajete” salsa

Postre / Dessert

Churros y Champurado
Traditional fried-dough pastry snack drizzled with agave-mango syrup and served with a thick masa-based hot chocolate
