Kicking off Thursday, April 1
Cafe Wha Who?, the genre-busting coffee and cocktail lounge with performance space in the heart of River North, debuts its new monthly event, “Book Club,” on Thursday, April 1. But lest you have visions of dog-eared copies of “Twilight” and endless rounds of Chardonnay, these “Book Club” parties will showcase artists’ portfolios and bodies of work, not the latest paperback.
Every first Thursday of the month, beginning with the premiere event on Thursday, April 1, “Book Club” will highlight a different visual artist, who will share select works from their portfolio for guests’ viewing (and sometimes purchasing) pleasure. Each artist will also select the music for their soiree, sharing what inspires them to create. The kick-off party will feature works by photographer Cathy Sunu (www.cathysunu.com), followed by graphic designer Nicole Ziegler (www.nicolezieglerdesign.com) on Thursday, May 6. Future dates to be announced soon.
The “Book Club” events, which are sponsored by local graphic design studio Simpletype, will take place from 6-10 p.m. in the second-floor gallery space found within the eclectic confines of Cafe Wha Who?. There is no cover, and a cash bar, offering the cafe’s full beer, wine and cocktail list, is available.
