Fire Chief Ale available Thursday, March 11-Sunday, April 4
Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in River North will take part in the company’s nationwide Fire Chief Ale celebration from Thursday, March 11 through Sunday, April 4. This 14th annual event benefits the Chicago Fire Department and related charities through sales of Rock Bottom’s handcrafted Fire Chief Ale. Since its inception in 1997, sales of Fire Chief Ale have raised more than $1 million in donations to fire departments across the country.
The specialty brew will be released by brewmaster Peter Crowley during Rock Bottom’s monthly tapping party from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 (no cost to attend). Rock Bottom’s Fire Chief Ale features an assertive hop character, subtle hints of caramel and chocolate, and a crisp citrus finish. Twenty-five cents from the sale of each pint ($5.25) will benefit the Chicago Fire Department and related charities.
In continuing the Fire Chief Ale festivities, Rock Bottom will host a Firefighter Chili Cook-Off from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31. Approximately 25 local firefighters will participate, bringing their best chili recipes to the restaurant for guests to taste while a panel of judges rate each for the honors of “Best Chili.” For $5 per person, guests receive a “bottomless” cup to taste their fill of chili, and for $10 per person, chili connoisseurs get the “bottomless” cup along with one Rock Bottom beer of their choice served in a souvenir pint glass to take home. All proceeds from Rock Bottom’s Firefighter Chili Cook-Off will benefit the Chicago Fire Department.
