Thursday, January 21
9 p.m. show
An exuberant evening of exotic world music awaits on Thursday, January 21 as West Loop lounge Red Kiva presents a performance by Sindoolaa. The high-energy musical ensemble, led by Senegal native Oumar Sagna, blends traditional West African music with contemporary sounds, as well as reggae, salsa and other styles of world music. The Milwaukee-based, multi-piece band will be making a special appearance starting at 9 p.m. in Red Kiva’s intimate confines.
Red Kiva’s regular Thursday-night specials will also be in effect during the show, including $5 Absolut cocktails. Red Kiva is open Wednesday through Friday from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m., and Saturday from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m.
In 2005, Oumar Sagna released his first music recording and subsequently formed the Sindoolaa African Music Band. Calling on influences from Oumar’s home village of Diatock, Casamance in Southern Senegal, the music fuses traditional West African and contemporary roots, enrapturing audiences with a unique sound. Sindoolaa is composed of musicians native to Senegal and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the band is based. For more information, visit www.sindoolaa.com.
