III Forks Continues Complimentary Monthly Wine Tastings

February’s Sip and Swirl Event Features Terlato

III Forks Prime Steakhouse will hold their next monthly wine tasting event on Monday, February 6. From 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., guests are invited to sip, swirl and sample three of Terlato Wines International’s varietals. The tasting, led by Proprietor Danny Payne and Wine Director Lance Gresak, will feature Terlato Family Vineyards’ Pinot Grigio, Chimney Rock’s Elevage and Flor de Campo’s Pinot Noir. Executive Chef Tommy Nevill will pair the pours with hand-passed hors d’oeuvres.

Following the event, participating guests are then welcome to enjoy a glass or bottle of wine at half-price.

The tastings will continue to take place the first Monday of every month (March 5, April 2) from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“Open That Bottle Night”

Five Restaurants Participate in Annual Uncork-It Celebration

Saturday, February 25

Stop saving that bottle for a special occasion! Since the year 2000, on the last Saturday night in February, friends, couples and groups get together to enjoy particular bottles of wine and champagne. The bottle selected is traditionally one that you have been saving for a special event that, so far, hasn’t happened.

“Open That Bottle Night” was created by Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher of the Wall Street Journal as a great way to feel entitled to uncork that cherished bottle. It doesn’t matter if the wine is expensive or reasonable, red, white or bubbly – what matters are the memories.

Five local restaurants are inviting guests to bring in their special bottle without being charged a corkage fee. If you don’t have a bottle on hand, two of the participating restaurants will offer nice discount on select bottles of wines from their house list.

Weekend Wines at Elate

Select Glass Pours for $5 on Friday and $6 on Saturday

Starting this Friday, January 27, and running through the winter months, Elate will feature selected wines by the glass on weekends. Every Friday, a list of white wines will be offered for $5, and every Saturday, a choice of red wines will be available for $6. The hand-picked list will change weekly; examples are listed below.

Elate serves breakfast (Monday-Friday: 6:30-11:00am, Saturday-Sunday: 7:30am-2:30pm), brunch (Saturday-Sunday: 10:30am-2:30pm), lunch (everyday 11:00am-2:30pm), dinner (Monday-Thursday: 5-10pm, Friday-Saturday: 5-11pm, Sunday: 5-9pm) and drinks in the bar/lounge.

Valentine’s Day Weekend at Park Grill

Sweetheart Specials, Cocktail Duo and Half-Price Wines

Friday, February 10 – Tuesday, February 14

Capture the heart of your sweetie in the heart of the city this Valentine’s Day. Park Grill in picturesque Millennium Park will celebrate the weekend of love with sweetheart specials, themed cocktails (Sweetheart Martini, Bourbon Bubbly) and half-price select bottles of wine from Friday, February 10 to Tuesday, February 14.

As an added bonus, each day a pair of theater tickets will be raffled off to various performances at The Harris Theater and Chicago Opera Theater. On February 14, one lucky couple will take home a romantic Chicago “getaway package” that includes a one night stay at Hotel Burnham and dinner for two at Park Grill. Also on February 14, all ladies dining at the restaurant will receive complimentary chocolate covered strawberries.

Reservations are recommended, and may be made by calling 312-521-PARK (7275). The dinner hours at Park Grill are Friday and Saturday 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday through Tuesday 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

“Toast for Tuesdays” at ZED451

New Weekly Wine Night Features Half-Price Bottles

ZED451 offers an enticing reason to toast on Tuesday nights. A newly launched wine night, “Toast for Tuesdays,” is now taking place every week at the River North restaurant and lounge. The select list features approximately 30 bottles, from Malbecs and Merlots to Cabs and Cava, at a fifty-percent discount. The wine list will change slightly from week to week; an example wine list is below.

ZED451 suggests pairing the chosen bottle with the full dinner experience, offered on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., or simply enjoy sipping and swirling in the cozy lounge, from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The bar area offers an a la carte menu, with appetizers, sliders and other specialties. Elate Restaurant will offer a prix fixe menu this Valentine’s Day. On Tuesday, February 14, Executive Chef Michael Noll will prepare three courses, which include Parnsip Bisque, Gunthrop Farms Duck Breast or Roasted Turbot and Avocado Panna Cotta. Starting Wednesday, January 11, the sounds of acoustic songs will fill the Fireside Lounge at ZED451. Each week, on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m., the cozy, ski lodge-like setting will welcome a variety of live, local acts to the River North restaurant’s bar area. The performances (schedule below) are free to attend.

ZED451′s Fireside Lounge offers a large variety of creative, liquid market cocktails, craft brews and hand-selected wines, in addition to a full a la carte “Cravings” menu (pad Thai tacos, char-grilled sirloin salad, calamari fries, house-cured duck pastrami Reuben sliders, maple Cajun BLT, spiced chicken samosas, Aegean flatbread and more) from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Wednesdays.

H2Vino Wine Dinner at Quince

South American Wines Paired with Four Courses

Quince Restaurant will welcome H2Vino for a South American wine diner on Thursday, January 26, 2012. H2Vino is an importing and distributing company that focuses on fine, artisan wines from around the world, many of which are bio dynamic, organic or organically farmed. 

H2Vino representative Paul Brown will lead the four course wine dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. Chef Andy Motto’s cuisine will be paired with four South American wines, hand-selected by Brown. He will discuss his recent travels to South America, where he toured the featured vineyards of the evening.
