Spiced Sangria and Turkey Taquitos on Black Wednesday

The night before the Thanksgiving holiday will be festive and fun at Nacional 27. In addition to the full dinner and cocktail menus, three spicy and seasonal specials will be offered in the lounge at a discounted price. Nacional 27′s house-made Spiced Red and White Sangria will be offered at $5 per glass (regularly $9) and $15 by the pitcher (regularly $27, serves 6). Chef Chico Vilchez will prepare an appropriately themed special, Turkey Taquitos, served with a spicy cranberry salsa for $15.

Nacional 27′s sangria, available on tap, is made with house-infused wine, fruit, liqueurs, brandy and a secret blend of seven spices.

Cactus Bar and Grill will kick off the holiday season with a toy drive! Beginning on “Black Wednesday” (Thanksgiving Eve, November 23), the Loop eatery will add a large “Toys for Tots” drop box to the bar area. The spirit of giving will pass on, as patrons who donate a new, unwrapped toy will receive a complimentary appetizer (valid November 23 through December 16). The selection of “Toys for Tots” appetizers include cheeseburger sliders, artichoke jalapeno dip with chips, Death Valley wings, salsa and chips and cheese quesadillas – menu below.

On Black Wednesday, Cactus Bar and Grill will offer $5 Patron Silver Shots and $3 pints of Half Acre Daisy Cutter.

Collection hours: Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to Midnight; Friday 11 .m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to close. Those dropping off toys throughout the week may enjoy $4 craft and import bottles and $1 sliders on Mondays; $2 call cocktails on Tuesdays; $2 domestic drafts and $3 craft and import drafts on Wednesdays; $6 12-ounce margaritas, $20 Mexican beer buckets and $5 Cabo Wabo shots on Thursdays; $5 Patron Silver shots, $18 Miller Lite buckets and $11 20-ounce “lush cup” margaritas on Fridays; $5 20-ounce drafts, $16 Coors Light buckets and $5 half-pound burgers on Saturdays and $5 20-ounce drafts, $16 Miller Lite buckets and $5 bloody marys on Sundays. Everyday: select appetizers $5 after 5 p.m.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

Pre-Thanksgiving Prix Fixe and Pilgrim Party Package Perfect for “Black Wednesday”

The Red Canary will kick off the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with two special restaurant and lounge events. From 5pm to 10pm, Chef Neal Harper will present a three-course “Pre-Thanksgiving Prix Fixe” menu for $20. This menu includes seasonal, real American comfort fare (menu below) with selections from soups to salads, entrees and desserts. The regular dinner menu will also be available.

After dinner service, The Red Canary will offer a “Pilgrim Party Package” suitable for lounge patrons celebrating “Black Wednesday” (which is notorious for being a popular night for pre-Thanksgiving parties). A two hour open bar ($20) will take place from 10pm-Midnight. Bar and lounge guests will be able to choose from domestic beer offerings, house wines by the glass or cocktails (‘call’ brands include Tanqueray, Stoli, Effen, Captain Morgan and more). The Red Canary will also offer cash bar service from 5pm-2am.

The sexy lounge atmosphere exudes a 1920s Art Deco vibe, with a grand chandelier, metallic gold details, bold damask fabrics and vibrant red walls. Executive Chef Neal Harper dishes out familiar favorites including Grilled Cheese and Chunky Tomato Soup, Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Mashed Potatoes, Baby Back Ribs and Chicken Pot Pie. The bar program offers an extensive list of classic cocktails, wine and craft beer. The Red Canary offers dinner service nightly, as well as brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
