Can’t make it to Rio de Janeiro this year?  Nacional 27 in River North will offer the next best thing at their “Carnival 2012″ cocktail party on Fat Tuesday, February 21. The Nuevo Latino restaurant and lounge, inspired by the flavors and ingredients from the 27 countries comprising Central and South America, will feature live Brazilian music by the Bossa Tres Trio from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and custom cocktails made with Brazilian-based ingredients.

In-house mixologist and general manager Liz Samples will offer three different types of Caipirinhas, a classic Brazilian drink made with cachaca (a Brazilian liquor made from distilled and fermented sugarcane juice).  Guests may select the Classic Caipirinha, the Smooth & Spicy Caipirinha made with coconut, mango, ginger and lime or the Lux Caipirinha, made with yuzu sour juice ($8 each).  The restaurant will also feature a Veev Acai Berry-blended Mojito for $10.  Acai is a “superfood” berry found in the Brazilian Amazon.

Executive Chef Francisco Vilchez’s full tapas and dinner menus will be available.

New Year’s Resolutions at Nacional 27

“Look Better Now” Menu and “Feel Better Now” Cocktails

Keep your resolutions intact, your waistline slimmer and your wallet fuller this January at Nacional 27. The “Look Better Now” menu, comprised of three courses of refreshing, flavorful, Latin-inspired dishes, will be offered  for only $20 per guest. The “Look Better Now” prix fixe is the perfect way to purge the gluttony of the holiday season.  The coordinating “Feel Better Now” cocktail menu is made with fresh, bright fruits and spirits for $8 each.

Ring in 2012 at Nacional 27! On Saturday, December 31, from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., the River North hot spot has planned a festive evening of Latin eats and beats. The restaurant and lounge is offering multi-course menus with optional cocktail pairings, in addition to a late-night premium bar package.

The entire evening will be set to sultry sounds, with live Latin music performed in the bar/lounge from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., live DJs setting beats to get your hips shaking staring at 10 p.m., and DJ Konsept spinning in the Año Nuevo with the sultry sounds of Latin America!

The three New Year’s Eve “Eat. Drink. Dance.” options are outlined below. Reservations are required, please call Nacional 27 at 312-664-2727.

Enjoy a four-course Latin Menu for $95 per person ($120 per person includes cocktail pairings). Table reservations are for two hours. The New Year’s Eve dinner menu, listed below, features dishes from Central and South America. Guests dining within this time frame will enjoy the live music, as well as a champagne toast and complimentary cover charge for the club. Those with reservations for 9 p.m. and later will be guaranteed to keep their table for the remainder of the evening. 

The a la carte, tapas and ceviche menu will be offered in the bar and lounge from 5 p.m. to Midnight.

National Sangria Day at Nacional 27

Seven Festive Flavors Offered by the Glass or Pitcher

River North’s dining, drinking and dancing destination, Nacional 27, will celebrate “National Sangria Day” on Tuesday, December 20, by offering seven different versions of their delicious house-made drink at discounted prices. From 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the restaurant and lounge will offer guests $5 glasses of sangria (regularly $9) and sangria by the pitcher for $15 (regularly $27). Gather some friends and plan a sangria party, as pitchers of the refreshing fruit-filled wine beverage serve six people.

The seven flavors include Nacional 27’s traditional spiced red, white and sparkling sangria, in addition to creative combinations such as passion-ginger, mango-lime, orange-cranberry and sparkling grapefruit sangria. Nacional 27’s classic sangria, available on tap, is made with house-infused wine, fruit, liqueurs, spices and brandy.

New Dinner Menu at Nacional 27

Nacional 27 and Chef Chico Vilchez have unveiled a sizzling new menu for dinner service. The modern Latin restaurant and lounge begins with soups (chicken tortilla; gazpacho) and salads (ensalada verde; Costa Rican heart of palm), then leads into Latin favorites (pumpkin and goat cheese croqueta; shrimp adobado skewers; chorizo empanada; BBQ’d lamb tiny tacos; and a selection of ceviche). The dinner menu continues with entrees, such as Latin comfort foods (farm raised, chicken mole verde; suckling pig Cubano; short rib enchiladas), gaucho skewers, paella, seafood (Pacific Blue Nose Grouper Huachinago; center cut Ahi tuna) and steak (grilled, marinated skirt steak; chimichurri-crusted filet).

Group dining at Nacional 27 is easily achieved with a variety of menu choices. Along with the weekly entertainment and night-on-the-town atmosphere, Chef Vilchez’s large-party platters include the “Latin Dinner Party” for four or more (36.95 per guest includes tapas, three entrees and side dishes), “For The Table” appetizers, “Gaucho Skewers” (skewers of selected meats and seafood with rice and beans for two or more), ceviche and paella (plus pitchers of creative, house-made cocktails).

Dinner will end on a sweet note, as the Postres (desserts) section of the menu offers Pastel de Tres Leches, Cinnamon Churros, Grand Marnier Chocolate Cake, Pineapple Shortcake and Chico’s Flan.

Thanksgiving Eve at Nacional 27

Spiced Sangria and Turkey Taquitos on Black Wednesday

Wednesday, November 23
Dinner and Lounge service, 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The night before the Thanksgiving holiday will be festive and fun at Nacional 27. In addition to the full dinner and cocktail menus, three spicy and seasonal specials will be offered in the lounge at a discounted price. Nacional 27’s house-made Spiced Red and White Sangria will be offered at $5 per glass (regularly $9) and $15 by the pitcher (regularly $27, serves 6). Chef Chico Vilchez will prepare an appropriately themed special, Turkey Taquitos, served with a spicy cranberry salsa for $15.

Nacional 27’s sangria, available on tap, is made with house-infused wine, fruit, liqueurs, brandy and a secret blend of seven spices.

Heat Up Your Week with New Winter Happenings

Nacional 27 has a new, weekly line-up for the Fall-Winter season. Each evening, the River North restaurant brings a variety of hot happenings, cool cocktails and culinary delights to diners, dancers and lounge guests. The event schedule is outlined below, by day. Nacional 27 is open Monday-Wednesday 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Thursday 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.

5 p.m. – 7 p.m. weekly
Half Priced Tapas and Ceviche Menus
Appetizers include papas bravas; boniato and sweet plantain croqueta; pumpkin and goat cheese croqueta; steak arepa quesadilla; crispy steak nacho; skewers; empanadas; tiny tacos; ceviche; combination platters and more priced at $2.50 to $5.50 (regularly $4.95 to $10.95)
